COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA

The Communist Party of Cuba is the ruling political party in the Republic of Cuba with more than 670,000 party members as of 2016. The origins of the Cuban Communist Party go back to the broad unification process that took place in 1961. The United Revolutionary Organization was formed as a result of the integration of the Revolutionary Movement of July 26, the Popular Socialist Party and the Revolutionary Administration of March 13. On March 26, 1962, party changes were made and the party changed its name to the United Party of the Socialist Revolution of Cuba. The party acquired its present name on October 3, 1965, at which time the first Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba was formed. Party supremacy is enshrined in article 5 of the Cuban Constitution. Accordingly, from 1976 to the present, the party is the only ruling political organization in the legislative body of the state. The highest official in Cuba is the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. Since the formation of the party, there have been two first secretaries in the history of Cuba: Fidel Castro (1961-2011) and Raul Castro (from 2011 to the present). The party has youth political organizations: the Union of Young Communists and the Organization of Pioneers. Official site of the party:
