Congolese Labor Party
THE CONGOLESE PARTY OF LABOR (CPT; THE CONGOLESE PARTY OF LABOR) is the ruling party in the Republic of the Congo, founded in 1969 by Marien Ngouabi. In the same year, Marien Ngouabi was elected President of the Republic of the Congo.
The party has been ruling from the moment of its foundation. Until 1990, it was the only legal party in the country. Under the chairman of the party, Denis Sassou-Nguesso, the party program began to be based on social democratic principles. In the elections to the National Assembly in 1992, the party took 3rd place, receiving 18 seats (14% of the total number of seats).
The CPT is considered the successor to the National Revolutionary Movement (NRM). Initially, the party was guided by Marxist ideology. In 1969, the Party Congress also adopted the Party Charter. In 1970, the party program provided for the non-capitalist development of the state. Later, in 1972, a new program was adopted containing points on the socialist orientation of the country's development. In the economic sphere, the CPT focuses on the creation of the public sector and its transformation into the main link of the national economy. In the foreign policy sphere, the CPT seeks to support the national liberation movement and to develop all-round ties with the socialist countries. One of the party partners of the CPT is the United Russia party.
