DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF KOREA - one of the leading political parties in South Korea. The origins of the party were laid back in 1955. The party acquired its modern appearance in 2014 with the unification of the Democratic Party and the New Political Vision Party. The last elections (2016) to the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea ended in victory for the party, which, together with the Platform Party, received an absolute majority. The Democrats received 140 mandates, and within the coalition - 180 parliamentary seats, which is 60% of the total number of MPs. In the 2017 South Korean presidential elections, the party nominated Moon Jae-In as a candidate for government office. Moon Jae-In won with 41.7% of the vote. The post of the President of the Party is currently held by the President of South Korea - Moon Jae-In. The Party’s Secretary-General is the incumbent Member of the National Assembly of South Korea - Park Kwang-On. The chairman of the party is the deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea - Lee Nak-Yon. The Democratic Party of South Korea has an agreement on interaction and cooperation with the All-Russian political party, “United Russia”.
