LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF JAPAN

LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF JAPAN, LDP (Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, LDP) is one of the largest political parties in Japan, it is over 70 years old. The party was formed in 1955 as a result of the merger of two political parties that act as a united front against the Socialist Party of Japan (today: Social Democratic Party): the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party. In 2019, the number of the party was 1,086,298 people. From 1958 to 2014, in 19 out of 20 electoral cycles, the party independently and in a coalition formed the government. In 1993 the party lost the elections and went over to the opposition, but from 1994 to 1996 it was part of the government coalition. The 2017 elections to the lower house of the Japanese national parliament ended in victory for the party, which formed a government coalition together with the Komeito political party. In total, the party received 284 deputy mandates out of 465 possible. The president of the party is the Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshihide Suga. Secretary General - Toshihiro Nikai. Since 2004, the Liberal Democratic Party has an agreement on interaction and cooperation with the All-Russian political party "United Russia". Party's official website: www.jimin.jp
