MONGOLIAN PEOPLE'S PARTY

MONGOLIAN PEOPLE'S PARTY (MPP) - the first Mongolian political organization, created in 1921. Ideologically, the party occupies a left position, adhering to social democratic views. The Mongolian People's Party seeks to defend the national sovereignty of Mongolia and to achieve the basic principles of social democracy: freedom, justice, solidarity. In 1925, the party was renamed the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP), and in 2010 returned to its former name. Until 1992, the party adhered to the Marxist-Leninist ideology, since 1997 - to the centre-left; proclaims adherence to social democratic principles. In 1921-1996, 2000-2004 MPP was a ruling party, and in 2004-2012 was in a "grand coalition" with the Democratic Party. In 2010, the Mongolian People's Party and United Russia entered into a cooperation agreement. In 2012-2016, MPP was an opposition party, and since 2016 it has occupied an absolute majority in parliament (65 out of 76 seats). In the national elections to the State Great Khural in 2020, the Mongolian People's Party won 62 seats, which is 82% of the total. The chairman of the party at the moment is Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, who has been the Prime Minister of Mongolia since 2017. The Secretary General is Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan.
