PARTY OF SOCIALISTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA
THE PARTY OF SOCIALISTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA (PSRM; THE PARTY OF SOCIALISTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA) is a party founded in 1997 in the Republic of Moldova.
The leader of the party is Zinaida Greceanîi, who holds the position of the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
The party's headquarters are located in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.
The number of party members is over 14,400 people.
The Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova adheres to the social democratic ideology.
The goals of the party are: building a socialist democratic society in the Republic of Moldova; preserving neutrality in Moldova, ensuring the territorial integrity and independence of Moldova; development of the state doctrine of the Republic of Moldova; strengthening the Moldovan civil nation; the special status of Orthodoxy as the base of traditional cultural values of the Moldovan people; strengthening of state regulation of the economy; the creation of a strong and responsible government; reforming the social and economic life of the republic; eradication of unemployment and poverty in society; strengthening of Moldovan statehood and identity.
PSRM is the successor of the Socialist Party of Moldova, which was created in 1992. Members and supporters of the party voted for the independence and the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, for the coat of arms and anthem of the country. They contributed to Moldova's accession to the CIS, the end of the war on the Dniester, the peaceful settlement of the situation in Gagauzia and the creation of the democratic foundations of a modern Moldovan state, in which all citizens have the right to the existence of their ethnic, linguistic, cultural and religious identity.
The party was officially established in 1997. It joined the international political association "Eurasian Socialist Congress" and the international fund "Alternatives".
In 1998, the party took part in the parliamentary elections, organized and held an international conference “Socialism in the 21st century”.
The party did not independently participate in the parliamentary elections in 2009 and 2011, the PSRM supported the Party of Communists of Moldova (PCRM), being included in the PCRM list.
2005 to 2011 the party was known as the Party of Socialists of Moldova "Rodina". The party won 25 seats in the Rodina electoral bloc in the 2014 parliamentary elections (25% of the total number of seats).
In the same year, the PSRM organized three international scientific and practical conferences on the following topics: "Federal State: International Experience and Prospects for Moldova", "The Republic of Moldova and Its Integration Prospects: The Customs Union or the European Union" and "Orthodox Civilization and the Modern World" ...
In 2017, the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova and the United Russia party signed a cooperation agreement.
In 2019, in the national elections to the Chamber of Deputies, the PSRM received 35 deputy seats, which amounted to 32% of the total number of seats. According to the results of the elections, PSRM entered the government coalition with the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM).
The youth wing of the party is the Garda Tynare Youth Movement.
