PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF TAJIKISTAN

THE PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF TAJIKISTAN (PDPT) – ruling party of Tajikistan. The leader of the party is Emomali Rahmon, a Tajik politician who has served as President of Tajikistan since 1992. The party was founded in 1994 by Abdulmajid Dostiyev as the People's Party of Tajikistan. The party took part in the parliamentary elections for the first time in 1995, receiving five parliamentary seats as a result of the elections. In the next elections in 2000, the party won 36/63 seats, thus becoming the ruling party in Tajikistan. In the 2005 elections - 49/63, and in the 2010 elections, the party received a record number of votes - 55/63. Strengthening the position of the leader, the party won 51 out of 63 seats in the elections in 2015. Thus, according to the results of the last elections in 2020, the party received 47/63 seats, namely 75% of the votes, retaining the status of the ruling party. The number of party members is equal to 460 thousand people as for 2019. According to the party's charter, the PDPT aims to create a "sovereign, democratic, secular, socially-oriented and unitary state with a stable economy." The party seeks to implement and consolidate all the forces of society with the aim of improving the well-being of the people, raising the economy based on the development of all forms of ownership, ensuring the rights and freedoms of person and citizen. The People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan has a cooperation agreement with the United Russia party. The youth wing of the party is represented by the organization “Sozandagoni Vatan” (“Creators of the Motherland”).
