UNITED MALAYS NATIONAL ORGANISATION (UMNO) - the largest party in Malaysia with the largest number of seats and representatives in the political system of the state. The party was formed during the political struggle against the Malayan Union. In 1946, as a result of a meeting of active public figures, the political organization UMNO was formed, headed by Onn Jaafar. From 1955 to 2013, the party was part of the ruling coalitions of the federal parliament: the Alliance (1955-1969) and Barisan Nasional (1974-2018). In the last elections (2018) to the lower house of the federal parliament in Malaysia, the party received 79 mandates - 33.8% of the seats in parliament. The coalition that the party was part of failed to get a majority and went into opposition to the ruling coalition. The post of President of the Party is currently held by Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The party is chaired by Badruddin Amiruldin. The party has a youth wing - Pergerakan Pemuda UMNO, which has been engaged in social and political activities since 1949. In addition, a public organization of young women Pergerakan Puteri UMNO was formed under the party, aimed at realizing the rights and interests of women in society.
