The Justiceand and Development Party is one of the largest political parties in the Republic of Turkey.
The party was founded in 2001 by Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Abdullah Gul. In 2012, the political organization Voice of the People joined the party.
In the first parliamentary elections, the party won and received an absolute majority. From 2002 to 2015, the party completely controlled parliament. In 2015, it was not possible to form a government, so early elections were announced, in which Erdogan's party won.
In the 2018 elections to the lower house, she won an absolute majority within the framework of the People's Alliance coalition with the Party of the Nationalist Movement. The party received 295 mandates, and the coalition 344 out of 600 possible.
The Justice and Development Party has won elections during three presidential campaigns (2007, 2014, 2018). In 2007, Abdullah Gul was successfully elected, and in the next two elections, Recep Erdogan himself.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan holds the post of President of the party. The Deputy President of the party is Numan Kurtulmush. The post of General Secretary of the party is held by Fatih Chakhin.
Since 2009, the Justice and Development Party has an agreement on interaction and cooperation with the All-Russian political party "United Russia".
