PARTY "NEW AZERBAIJAN"
THE NEW AZERBAIJAN PARTY is a center-right party founded in 1992 in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The party's headquarters are located in the capital of the Republic, Baku. The number of party members exceeds 760,500 people.
The leader of the party is Ilham Aliyev, who is the president of Azerbaijan.
The party's ideology is based on conservatism and nationalism. The main party principles are the principles of an independent state, legality, creative progress, national unity, civil solidarity and social justice.
Among the goals pursued by the party: ensuring national unity; strengthening the state independence of Azerbaijan and ensuring it a worthy position in the system of modern international relations; creation of a democratic, legal and civil state, development of a stable and socially oriented economy; guaranteeing comprehensive protection of human rights and freedoms, regardless of race, nationality, social origin, language and religion; the formation of civil society based on the rule of law, social guarantees
The New Azerbaijan Party was established in 1992 on the initiative and with the active participation of the Azerbaijani intelligentsia. Heydar Aliyev was elected chairman of the party after sending him an appeal with a request to lead a new political party.
In a short time, the party opened its regional branches and cells in all regions of Azerbaijan. In accordance with the Charter and the NAP program adopted in 1999, a strategic course was determined, the main goals and objectives for strengthening and protecting the state independence of Azerbaijan, ensuring its worthy place in the modern international system and building the rule of law were determined.
In 1955, the party became the ruling party, and in 2000 the party won the parliamentary elections again, gaining 74 out of 124 seats in parliament.
According to the results of the 2003 elections, the First Deputy Chairman of the NAP, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev became the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The New Azerbaijan Party won the 2005 parliamentary elections with 62 seats.
In 2007, the party entered into a cooperation agreement with the United Russia party. In 2008, it was decided to nominate the chairman of the party, Ilham Aliyev, for the next presidential term. He was elected President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, winning (88.7%) in the 2008 presidential elections.
The New Azerbaijan Party proposed to amend and supplement the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan (in 29 articles). The party's proposal was approved by the National Assembly. A law was passed on amendments and additions to the Constitution of the state and a referendum was appointed, as a result of which the party's initiative was supported by the majority of voters.
In the elections to the National Assembly of Azerbaijan in 2020, the party won 70 seats, which was 56% of the total number of seats.
As the youth wing of the party, the youth union of the New Azerbaijan Party was formed.
